“I HATE MY FEDERAL JOB!”

Federal Benefit Advisory

In my 30 years working with federal employees, I have heard it all. At times, I feel I am thought of as Father Confessor. It makes me feel good when someone says they love their job, but my heart grieves for those that hate their job and are desperate to retire. Retirement is the only answer the employe can think of, so my message today is to consider all possibilities. The longer you stay, the greater the retirement, so it makes sense to stick around. “I hate my job!”, is strong and staying more years is no longer an option, or is it?

Before pulling the plug, consider a transfer to another office, station, job or even agency.  This could mean a horizontal transfer to your present level of pay, a reduction or maybe a raise or promotion.

If you, since you were hired, may have gained more education, perhaps a degree. Maybe you are now a private pilot or reserve police officer, your military MOS may be an asset. Before cutting off your ties, look to continuing your federal employment elsewhere.

Good luck.
