Shutdown, an update

Federal Benefit Advisory

February 8, 1926—excuse me, 2026. While the great majority of our federal government has finally stepped back from the brink of a total shutdown, the Department of Homeland Security remains the lone holdout in a city deeply divided. Under the Consolidated Appropriations Act, most of your tax dollars are flowing again through September, but DHS is currently surviving on a mere “patch” of funding that is ticking away toward a Friday, February 13th expiration. The stalemate in Washington centers on a bitter dispute over immigration enforcement and proposed ICE reforms, leaving agencies like the TSA and the Coast Guard to wonder if their next paycheck will be delayed once more.
