Support for Guardsman & Reservists

Federal Benefit Advisory

Military Reservist or Guardsman, sometime face a conundrum; work or reserve?

Did you know the law supports you, the Reservist and Guardsman under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.

You have an ombudsman, to work for you, on your behalf.

Employers signing a statement of support pledge that:

  • We fully recognize, honor, and comply with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.
  • We will provide our managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
  • We appreciate the values, leadership, and unique skills Service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists, and Veterans.
  • We will continually recognize and support our country’s Service members and their families, in peace, in crises, and in war.

Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).

ESGR, was established in 1972, under the Department of Defense, to protect the Guardsman and Reservist.

ESGR is supported by a network of more than 3,000 volunteers in 54 committees located across all 50 states. The District of Columbia, Guam-CNMI (Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands), Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Volunteers, hailing from small business and industry, government, education, and prior military service bring a vast wealth of experience to assist in serving employers, Service members, and their families. Together with Headquarters ESGR staff and a small cadre of support staff for each State Committee, volunteers work to promote and enhance employer support for military service in the Guard and Reserve.

As a former ESGR volunteer, I can say that within the federal government agencies, there are some that are convinced the USERRA does not apply to them, as a supervisor, or the agency as a whole. It was my pleasure to bring the word and change attitudes. By the way, not only does ESGR support the reservist / guardsman for activation, but also harassment. ESGR makes believers and patriots of abusive supervisors.

ESGR has served our country for more than 50 years. Fostering a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. These citizen warriors could not defend and protect us at home and abroad without the continued promise of meaningful civilian employment for themselves and their families. ESGR has continued to adapt to meet the needs of Reserve Component members, their families, and America’s employers, including the United States Government. As an employer, by joining forces with a network of other national, state, and local government and professional trade organizations. Together, We All Serve!
