TSP to ROTH Conversion

If you are counting on converting from your Traditional TSP into a TSP Roth, I have some news for you… You cannot. TSP has no provision and indeed prevents anyone from converting the Traditional TSP to a ROTH. If this is important to you, you will have to transfer out of TSP into an IRA with a Bank, brokerage, or annuity that allows a Qualified Retirement Plan deposit. Then, if the new IRA entity allows, you may convert from the traditional IRA to a ROTH IRA.

WARNING!

All conversions from traditional to ROTH are taxable events. You will see a tax on any amount you move from traditional into ROTH.
